Ingredients:
For the pizza dough:
- 1 pound (about 450g) pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- Cornmeal or flour for dusting
For the toppings:
- 1 cup cooked and shredded chicken (seasoned with salt, pepper, and a bit of BBQ sauce)
- 1/2 cup zesty barbecue sauce (adjust amount to your taste)
- 1 small red onion, thinly sliced
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (or a blend of cheeses like cheddar and mozzarella)
- Fresh cilantro or parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to the highest temperature possible (usually around 475-500°F or 245-260°C). If you have a pizza stone, place it in the oven while preheating.
- Prepare your pizza dough. If using homemade dough, roll it out on a floured surface into a circle or rectangle, depending on your preference. If using store-bought dough, follow the instructions on the packaging.
- Sprinkle some cornmeal or flour on a pizza peel or baking sheet to prevent the dough from sticking. Transfer the rolled-out dough onto the peel or baking sheet.
- Spread the zesty barbecue sauce evenly over the pizza dough, leaving a small border around the edges for the crust.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded cheese over the sauce.
- Distribute the shredded chicken and sliced red onions on top of the cheese.
- Sprinkle the remaining cheese over the chicken and onions.
- Carefully transfer the pizza to the preheated oven. If using a pizza stone, slide the pizza onto the hot stone. Otherwise, place the baking sheet with the pizza in the oven.
- Bake for about 12-15 minutes or until the crust is golden brown, and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Once done, remove the pizza from the oven and let it cool for a minute or two. Garnish with fresh cilantro or parsley if desired.
- Slice the pizza and serve hot.
Feel free to customize this pizza by adding other ingredients like bell peppers, bacon, or different types of cheese according to your taste preferences. Enjoy your zesty BBQ chicken and onion pizza!
