Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie

Ingredients:

  • 4 hoagie rolls or submarine rolls
  • 1 pound ribeye steak, thinly sliced (or sirloin steak)
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 8 slices provolone cheese (or Cheez Whiz for a more traditional Philly-style option)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or vegetable oil
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Optional: Sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, or other toppings of choice
  • Optional: Mayonnaise or ketchup for dressing

Instructions:

  1. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium-high heat.
  2. Add the olive oil to the skillet. Once the oil is hot, add the sliced onions and bell peppers. Sauté until they are softened and lightly caramelized, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the vegetables from the skillet and set them aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add the thinly sliced ribeye steak. Season the steak with salt and black pepper. Cook the steak, stirring frequently, until it’s browned and cooked through, about 4-5 minutes.
  4. Once the steak is cooked, return the sautéed onions and bell peppers to the skillet with the steak. Toss everything together and cook for an additional minute to blend the flavors.
  5. Preheat your oven to a low temperature (around 200°F) to keep the hoagie rolls warm.
  6. Open each hoagie roll without completely splitting it in half.
  7. Layer slices of provolone cheese inside each hoagie roll.
  8. Divide the steak, onions, and peppers mixture among the hoagie rolls on top of the cheese.
  9. Optionally, add sautéed mushrooms, hot peppers, or any other preferred toppings.
  10. Wrap each hoagie sandwich in foil and place them on a baking sheet. Warm the sandwiches in the preheated oven for about 5-7 minutes to melt the cheese and heat the bread.
  11. Remove the sandwiches from the oven, unwrap them, and serve your Philly Cheesesteak Hoagies immediately!

These Philly Cheesesteak Hoagie sandwiches are loaded with tender, seasoned steak, sautéed onions, bell peppers, and melted cheese, all nestled in a warm and soft hoagie roll. Feel free to add condiments like mayonnaise or ketchup according to your preferences, and enjoy this iconic Philly favorite!
