Ingredients:
- 8 slices of sandwich bread (Hawaiian bread or any preferred bread)
- 8 slices of cooked ham
- 8 pineapple slices (fresh or canned)
- 8 slices of Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese
- Butter, softened
- Dijon mustard (optional)
- Honey or brown sugar (optional)
- Sliced red onion (optional)
- Lettuce leaves (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat a grill pan, skillet, or panini press over medium heat.
- Butter one side of each slice of bread with the softened butter.
- If desired, spread a thin layer of Dijon mustard on the unbuttered side of half of the bread slices for added flavor.
- Place a slice of ham on the buttered side of each bread slice.
- If using, drizzle a little honey or sprinkle brown sugar on the pineapple slices for added sweetness (optional).
- Place a pineapple slice on top of the ham on each bread slice.
- Add a slice of Swiss or Monterey Jack cheese on top of the pineapple.
- Optionally, add sliced red onion and lettuce leaves on top of the cheese for extra flavor and crunch.
- Place the remaining bread slices, buttered side facing outward, on top of the assembled sandwiches to close them.
- If using a grill pan or skillet, place the sandwiches on the preheated surface. Grill for about 3-4 minutes per side, pressing down gently with a spatula, until the bread is golden brown and the cheese is melted.
- If using a panini press, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for grilling the sandwiches until they are toasted and the cheese is melted.
- Remove the sandwiches from the grill or press, slice them if desired, and serve hot.
