Ingredients:
For the burger patties:
- 1 pound ground beef (80/20 blend recommended)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 4 slices of cheddar or American cheese
For the BBQ sauce:
- 1 cup ketchup
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
For assembling the burger:
- 4 burger buns
- Lettuce leaves
- Sliced tomatoes
- Sliced red onions
- Pickles (optional)
Instructions:
- Preheat your grill to medium-high heat.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef with garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix the seasonings into the ground beef without overworking the meat. Form the mixture into 4 equal-sized burger patties. Make a slight indentation in the center of each patty to prevent it from bulging as it cooks.
- To prepare the BBQ sauce, in a saucepan over medium heat, combine ketchup, brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Simmer the sauce for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally until it thickens. Remove from heat and set aside.
- Place the burger patties on the preheated grill. Cook for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your desired level of doneness. During the last minute of cooking, add a slice of cheese on top of each patty and allow it to melt.
- While the burgers are grilling, lightly toast the burger buns on the grill until they are slightly golden brown.
- To assemble the burgers, spread a generous amount of the prepared BBQ sauce on the bottom half of each toasted bun. Place a lettuce leaf on top of the sauce, followed by a burger patty with melted cheese. Add tomato slices, red onion slices, and pickles if desired. Cover with the top half of the bun.
