Ingredients:
- 8 pieces of chicken (thighs, drumsticks, breasts, etc.)
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 2 cups breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 tablespoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Cooking spray or olive oil
Instructions:
- Marinate the chicken: Rinse the chicken pieces and pat them dry with paper towels. Place the chicken in a large bowl and pour the buttermilk over it, ensuring all pieces are submerged. Cover the bowl and refrigerate for at least 2 hours, or ideally overnight.
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Prepare the coating: In a shallow dish or bowl, combine the breadcrumbs, grated Parmesan cheese, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper.
- Coat the chicken: Remove the chicken from the buttermilk marinade, allowing any excess to drip off. Dredge each piece of chicken in the breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to coat both sides evenly.
- Prepare the baking sheet: Place a wire rack on top of a baking sheet to allow air circulation and prevent the chicken from becoming soggy. Lightly coat the wire rack with cooking spray or brush it with olive oil.
- Arrange the chicken: Place the coated chicken pieces on the prepared wire rack on the baking sheet.
- Bake the chicken: Bake in the preheated oven for about 30-45 minutes, depending on the size of the chicken pieces. Ensure the internal temperature of the chicken reaches 165°F (74°C) for safe consumption.
- Serve warm: Once the oven-fried chicken is cooked and crispy, remove it from the oven and let it rest for a few minutes before serving.
Oven-fried chicken provides a healthier alternative to traditional fried chicken while still delivering a satisfyingly crispy texture and delicious flavor. Adjust the seasoning according to your preferences and enjoy this oven-baked delight!
