Buttery Soft Parker House Rolls

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour, plus extra for dusting
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast (or one packet)
  • 1 1/4 cups warm milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted (plus extra for brushing)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • Additional melted butter for brushing (optional)

Instructions:

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 3 cups of all-purpose flour, sugar, instant yeast, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the warm milk and 1/2 cup melted butter.
  3. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients and pour in the milk-butter mixture.
  4. Stir the ingredients together until a soft dough forms.
  5. Gradually add the remaining 1 cup of flour, 1/4 cup at a time, until the dough is smooth, soft, and slightly sticky. You may not need to use all the remaining flour.
  6. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  7. Grease a clean bowl with oil or butter, place the dough inside, cover it with a kitchen towel or plastic wrap, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-1.5 hours or until it doubles in size.
  8. After the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release the air bubbles.
  9. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  10. Divide the dough into equal-sized portions and shape them into balls. The traditional Parker House rolls are slightly flattened and folded in half, but you can also shape them into regular rolls if preferred.
