Blue Cheese Buffalo Burger

Ingredients:

For the buffalo burger patties:

  • 1 pound ground buffalo meat (bison)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 burger buns

For the Buffalo Sauce:

  • 1/2 cup hot sauce (such as Frank’s RedHot)
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt to taste

For assembling the burger:

  • 4 ounces crumbled blue cheese
  • Crisp lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onions
  • Optional: Ranch or blue cheese dressing
  • Optional: Celery sticks for garnish

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Buffalo Sauce:
    • In a bowl, combine the hot sauce, melted butter, white vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and salt. Mix until well combined. Set aside.
  2. Form the Buffalo Burger Patties:
    • Divide the ground buffalo meat into 4 equal portions.
    • Gently shape each portion into a patty, making sure they’re slightly larger than the burger buns to allow for shrinkage during cooking.
    • Season both sides of the patties with salt and pepper.
  3. Cook the Buffalo Burger Patties:
    • Preheat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat.
    • Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes per side, or until they reach your preferred level of doneness.
  4. Prepare the Blue Cheese Topping:
    • Crumble the blue cheese into small pieces and set aside.
  5. Coat the Buffalo Burgers with Buffalo Sauce:
    • When the burger patties are almost done, brush each patty generously with the prepared buffalo sauce.
    • Allow the sauce to cook onto the patties for about a minute on each side, creating a flavorful glaze. Remove from heat.
  6. Assemble the Burgers:
    • Place a buffalo burger patty on the bottom half of each burger bun.
    • Sprinkle a generous amount of crumbled blue cheese over each patty.
    • Add crisp lettuce leaves, sliced tomatoes, and red onions on top of the blue cheese.
    • Drizzle some ranch or blue cheese dressing over the toppings if desired.
    • Place the top half of the bun over the toppings.
  7. Serve and Enjoy:
    • Serve the Blue Cheese Buffalo Burgers immediately while they’re hot and the blue cheese is slightly melted.
    • Optionally, serve with celery sticks on the side for added buffalo wing-inspired flair.
